Modjaw 4D Diagnostics
Modjaw is a real-time jaw tracking digital system used in dentistry, particularly in the fields of functional diagnostics and prosthodontics (fabrication of dental prostheses, veneers, crowns, etc.).
What is Modjaw used for?
4D Motion Tracking: The device uses optical technology to record the movements of the lower jaw in real time (including opening, closing, lateral movements, and chewing cycles).
Digital Integration: The captured data is directly integrated into CAD/CAM systems (such as Exocad), allowing precise design of dental restorations tailored to the patient's actual function.
Functional Diagnostics: It aids in the analysis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and muscle activity—an essential component in treating dysfunctions, bruxism, and related issues.
No Need for a Physical Articulator: It replaces the traditional mechanical articulator with a virtual one based on real jaw movements, saving time and increasing accuracy.
Applications:
Prosthodontics (fabrication of veneers, crowns, bridges)
Orthodontics
Diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders (TMD)
Functional impression taking for customized splints
Which Patients Benefit from Modjaw?
Modjaw diagnostics are particularly suitable for patients where it is crucial to consider the functional jaw movements during treatment planning. This includes:
1. Patients with complex prosthetic cases:
Fabrication of crowns, bridges, veneers, or full dentures
Full bite rehabilitation planning
Need for precise occlusion (contact between teeth when biting)
2. Patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD):
Pain in the jaw joint
Clicking, popping, or limited mouth opening
Jaw muscle fatigue
3. Patients with bruxism or teeth grinding:
Worn-down teeth
Nighttime clenching or grinding
Planning protective night guards and splints
4. Patients undergoing prosthetic or orthodontic treatment:
Need to combine aesthetic and functional requirements
Monitoring chewing function before and after treatment
5. Patients with mismatch between digital impressions and actual function:
When synchronization between scanned models and real jaw movements is required
To avoid inaccuracies in digital design
